Gardening/Letter H

With spring in full swing, I figured gardening would be a good unit for K to explore next. I originally planned on having flowers as the unit theme at first, but decided to generalize the unit to cover all forms of gardening: flowers, vegetables, and fruits. I figured diving into foods that K eats regularly might interest him more than simply looking at some flowers.

  • Day 4:
    • Flower Bead Lacing activity from Turner Tots (math). I went ahead and actually made my own flower cards. They definitely don’t look as nice as the ones on Turner Tots but K didn’t seem to mind šŸ˜. The file is below if you’re interested.
    • Planting the ABC’s from Turner Tots (literacy); this activity also costs a little
    • Name Letter Search: Using drawing paper roll, I wrote out K’s name as a template. I then hid the letters of his name around the room. K went around the room looking for the letters and placed them on top of their corresponding letters on the roll paper.
  • Day 5:
    • Read One Bean by Anne Rockwell
    • Explore Seeds In Foods We Eat: cut open vegetables and fruits to take a look at the different seeds. (science)

      • apple
      • avocado
      • bell pepper
      • tomato
    • Plant seeds; we’re planting strawberry seeds (sensory)
  • Day 6/7:
